Limutan Falls and Ambon-Ambon Falls
Brgy. Binukawan Bagac, Bataan
Moving Time and Day(s): 3 hours and 10 minutes | 1 day
April 1-3 2010
Bagac is one of the places you shouldn’t ever miss in Bataan
province. Natures, landscapes and historical places are abundant and rich. It was
the starting point of Death March during World War II which ended in Tarlac
province. Ambon-Ambon and Limutan are among famed waterfalls in Bagac. Fine-black
sand beaches are another attraction in the place.
It took 4 hours ride to reach Brgy.
Binukawan in Bagac. We register first at barangay hall then we secure our guide
before proceeding. Approximately 9 kilometers rough road and blistering trek to
reach the waterfalls. Wild boar, wild cats (musang/ alamid)
and different birds are often or might see.
Guide
led us to a shortcut. At the end of the rough road, wide and flat grounds served
as campsite. Few meters away from the campsite is the top of towering Ambon-Ambon falls. It will take 2-3
hours descent to reach the base of Ambon-Ambon falls. Others rappel in
Ambon-Ambon falls for more challenging experience and fastest way to descent.
The magnificent Limutan falls is located 5-10 minutes
away from the campsite. Approximately 20 meter high, 4-5 meters wide and more
than 10 feet deep. Even on summer days, water is still chilly. Choose from any
of several pools between the two falls.
Mountain biking is possible
and also recommended.
Note: As of April
2010, no one ever died in the falls. Precaution must be considered before
swimming. Avoid swimming and other activities when it rains due to flash flood
possibility.
Side Trips
There are 3 ways to go in Bagac town proper. By jeep or bus but,
you will wait for a couple of minutes or even hours. So, better rent a tricycle.
First destination was Ciudad de Asucar. Entrance fee is to be collected
upon entering. Second was beach in town proper. It was too crowded so, we went
to Sun Moon Resort.
The Sun Moon Beach resort entrance fee is too cheap
and wide grounds for tents. Nice and cool to stay. We spend two nights in the
beach before we went back to Manila.
