Climbing Mt. kalisungan with my fellow UE Mountaineers was another
great adventure and been part of my weekly climb (5th climb since Mt. Maculot,
Mt. Batulao, Mt. Talamitam and Mt. Teranos). The initial 5-10 minutes trek
through wide paved road to rough road, from locals trail to confusing forks
trail, foot prints of the horse and locals, over banana trunks and coconut
husks, knee level mud, tiger mosquitoes and black ants. We continued our trek
and hoping to spot the right track. We followed the direction told by the
locals. Unfortunately, we end up to nowhere. We scouted each trail. The last 2
separate trails we scouted were heading to kamote
plantation (root crops) to small Kubo with ulingan
(charcole) and a dead end. No sign of trail. In other trail scouted by Mam
grexa was also a dead end.
It was turning late and the sun is setting. We headed back where we
came. We stopped and took a rest in dalandan
plantation area around 1800H. Mam
Grexa Agon (UEM President) decided to rest for a while. E-camp was the initial plan
or we will go back and look for the right trail. We called the barangay secretary to locate us and help
to a get us a guide. Unfortunately, the guide was already gone home. I told to
get a guide for night trek batch. We decided to descent by 1920H and get back
in last house we saw (estimated 1.5 hours away). It was full moon but the trees
covered the moonlight. Again, we lost our way down and realized that we missed
the right turn (way). We explored the other trail but we can’t locate the right
way. And the decision was made, we headed back (2000H) in our last location
(dalandan area) and set an e-camp. It seemed that the mountain doesn’t want us
to be in the summit but to stay in dalandan area (scale:1/4 of the mountain). Our
team arrived in dalandan area by 2050H. We hurriedly pitch our tent then prepared
our dinner before the rain fall.
Reminder: keep and secure your foods away from black ants. This
little creature created a hole in my precious tents. They
bitten me more than 20 times and it seemed nothing happened but the next few days
it was itchy and left a pink-red marks on my legs and arms. It’s been a 2-3 itchy
days after the climb and the red marks remains for more than 5 days.
We were all happy even though we didn’t reach the summit and meet the
night trek team (they started trekking by 2030H and arrived in the Summit by
0300 with 2 guides and the barangay secretary).

Dalandan Area |
The following morning, we prepared our breakfast. Sinigang and tuna sandwich was our meal.
Then, we started our socials, supposedly last night.
Two locals passed by then we asked the right direction. We descended
around 1115H. We took the 1st right turn and passed by the pineapple
and rambutan area. We met some local
harvesting rambutan and asked for
direction. For about 30 minutes of trekking, we reached faith Sanctuary. At
1145H we arrieved in Barangay Hall. It was successful climbed but in different
way.

Faith Sanctuary 30minutes descent |
Mt. kalisungan climb was not a sweet success but another great
experienced with Grexa Agon, Ella Dorado, Dessa Villas, Princess Nicolas, Ecs
Sotelo and Bryan Tamayo.
We went to Sun City Pansol Laguna for our side trip (additional
150php entrance,cottage,fare transpo.).
