Backpacking Banaue-Batad-Sagada (3 days 2nights) Itinerary

A do-it-yourself itinerary of Banaue-Batad-Sagada-Baguio. Most of the destinations mentioned are unguided unless guide is mandatory.

Suggested Itinerary
Day 0
2200H Depart for Banaue (Bus fare - 450.00php)
Note: Take Ohayami bus bound for Banaue. Bus terminal is located at Fajardo street corner Lacson Avenue, Sampaloc, Manila. Buy ticket 1 week or more prior to your trip departure. Manila to Banaue will take 9-10 hours ride with several stops.
Day 1
0700 ETA Banaue town center; Register at tourism office (20.00php)
- Breakfast.
- Tricycle 1 way fare to Batad Rice terraces jump off is 500.00 good for 3 (max).
- Or take Jeep bound for Batad. There is no fixed departure time.
- Jeep fare for locals is 50.00php while tourist/traveler is 150.00php (just negotiate with the driver)
- Buy and bring water
0800 Depart for Batad (trike)
Note: Batad is one of the barangays in Banaue, Ifugao
0845 ETA Batad Rice terraces JUMP OFF (End of paved road)
- For day trip, tell your trike driver to wait for you.
- For overnight: the next day, catch 8am trip back to Banaue
Start trek - descending
0905 ETA Batad Rice terraces - information center
- Registration is 50.00php
- Cellphone network signal is very limited and sporadic.
- Guide fee to Tappia falls is 500.00 php
- Room rates 200-350.00php per person.
0915 Start trek to Tappia falls
- For unguided trek, ask locals for direction
0945 Tappia falls
- Swimming and photo ops
0915 Back to Upper Village (Uphill!)
1000 Reg. area
Other things to do in Batad:
- Eat organic pizza and other local food
- Buy locally made handicrafts
- Visit other villages: Cambulo, Bangaan, Kinakin and Pula. (*not advisable for day trip)
1100 Back to jump off
1130 Jump off/ Back to Banaue (via chartered trike: another 500.00php)
1215 Banaue town center
- Lunch
- If you didn’t catch Jeep trip to Bontoc or Sagada: 2 options
- Option 1 (recommended). Take van bound for Baguio then drop at Bontoc Shell Gas Station. There is no fixed departure time for Van trip.
- Option 2. Stay overnight at Banaue. Room rates starts from 250.00 per person.
1300 Depart for Bontoc - Van fare is 150.00php
1430 ETA Shell gas Station - Bontoc, Mountain Province
- Take jeep bound for Sagada.
- Jeep leaves every 30 minutes.
1500 Depart for Sagada - Jeep fare is 45.00php
1545 ETA Sagada, Mountain Province
- Register at tourism office - 35.00php
- Get your free map of Sagada.
- Choose you lodging. Room rates 200-350.00php per person.
1630 From you lodging area, head to Hanging Coffins in Echo valley.
- Use you map.
- You will pass by St. Mary church, Cemetery and Echo Valley viewing deck.
1700 ETA Hanging Coffin
- 15-20 minutes picture taking.
1800 Dinner
Day 2
0600 Breakfast then proceed to Bomod ok falls
There are 2 options going to Bomod ok falls jump off:
OPTION 1:
- Proceed to jeep terminal going to Aguid
- Take jeep bound for Aguid then drop at Bangaan - Bomod ok falls jump off
- It leaves at around 7am
- Jeep fare is 20.00php; 20-30 minutes ride
- From Aguid, jeep leaves at around 1pm
OPTION 2: (recommended for big groups)
- Chartered jeep (roundtrip) rate starts from 500.00php
0700 Depart for Bangaan
0730 ETA Bangaan information center. Register and secure guide.
- Guide is mandatory
- Guide fee is 500.00php max of 10person
0735 Start trek (downhill)
0820 ETA Bomod ok falls - Brgy. Fidelisan, Sagada, Mountain Province
- Swim, dive and relax
1000 Head to Aguid (Uphill)
1100 ETA Aguid - back to Sagada
1130 ETA Sagada town proper
- Lunch
1230 Proceed to Pongas falls in Barangay Suyo *optional
- Pongas falls is 1 hour or 5km away (by foot) from town proper or 40 minutes away from Sumaguing Cave jump off.
- only 5-10 minutes away if you hire jeep to Pongas jump off then another 15-20 minutes trek to falls.
- After Pongas falls, proceed to Sumaguing Cave (Spelunking) or go for cave connection
1430 Start of cave connection (Lumiang-Sumaguing cave)
- Bring head lamps, gloves and arm sleeves.
- Guide fee is 400/person.
- Registration fee 35.00/person
1730 End of Spelunking
- back to town proper (15 minutes away)
Day 3
0500 Proceed to Kiltepan viewdeck for Sunrise
30 minutes to 1 hour walk from town proper or better hire jeep to Kiltepan
0530 ETA Kiltepan viewdeck
0630 Back to town proper
0700 Town proper. Breakfast
- Check bus schedule going to Baguio.
- Free time
0930 Check out.
1000 Depart for Baguio
- Bus fare is 220.00php
- There are 2-3 stopovers.
1500 ETA Baguio City
- take taxi cab to Victory Liner
- Buy ticket back to Manila
1600 Depart for Cubao/ Pasay/ Caloocan/ Sampaloc (Manila)
- Bus fare 450.00php
