Mt. Palay-palay | Pico de Loro
Moving Time and Day(s):
3 Hours and 30 Minutes | 2 Days
For many times, I always
end up cancelling or changing the target mountain (Pico de Loro). Supposedly,
last year was my first ascent to Pico de Loro but because of waiting for bus
for too long then, I end up taking bus bound to Nasugbu. We ate bulalo in Tagaytay
before and after our hike in Mt. Batulao. But this time, I conquered Pico
de Loro.
Pico de Loro is
considered as one of the top crowded hiking places in the Philippines (i.e. Mts. Batulao, Maculot, and Pulag). The
trail is wide and easy which is highly recommended for beginner. Trail signs
are established and visible. Trekking may take for about 2-3 hours on average
hiker. Waterfall is another attraction but during summer season, the water in
the falls is likely a pee of a child. It will take only 3-5 minutes from the
main trail going to waterfall; Left trail lead to the waterfall while the right
trail is heading to the campsite and summit.

Lunch may take in the waterfall area
before the final push for campsite or summit. Campsite is very wide which can
accommodate many campers. From there, summit, monolith and also the nearby
mountains (Mts. Batulao, Talamitam and
Maculot) can be seen. Summit is just 10-15 minutes away from the campsite. Upon
arriving in the summit, the views are awesome. A 360 degree views are offer at
the summit. And if you need some extra challenge, the most exciting part is climbing
the monolith or the parrot beak. It will take 5-10 minutes to climb the
monolith peak. Sometimes wind can blow strong at the summit which is enough to
push you. Climbing the monolith
during strong wind is not advisable.
